The Tour to the South
This two-weeks tour, which you can easily combine with a trip into Panama, leads you from the central volcano Poas to Corvocada National Park, situated on the peninsula of Osa. The park holds the greatest variety of species at the Pacific coast of Central America.
From the central valley we go along the impressive panoramic road to Puriscal, visit a cigar factory and observe crocodiles at the Tarcoles River. At the tourist centre of Manuel Antonio you can go swimming, before we continue to Silencio, a cooperative of campesinos that has been offering ecotourism for more than ten years and runs a wildlife-rescue centre. You will visit the local school and walk into the forest reservation of Los Campesinos, formerly a vanilla plantation, with beautiful water falls and walking paths. Afterwards you stay overnight one of the most beautiful national parks with lovely beaches: Bahia Ballena, the bay of the whales. Continuing in Southern direction you see the famous stone balls of the indigenous population, and on a boat trip through endless mangroves finally reach the open sea at Drake Bay, called after the famous pirate who is aid to have hidden a treasure here. From Drake Bay you hike into Corcovado National Park, the highlight of the tour.
The next stop is Kökö Farm, a tropical farm, where you can learn everything about cocoa and can eat a first class meal. From here you can also explore the Golfo Dulce, an impressive inland sea.
