The Tour to the Pacific
After the first night in our hotel, situated in a tropical garden near Ciudad Colon, 18 km from the capital, you get a first glimpse of the culture of the Central Valley in the village of Escazu: traditional mask workshops, a sugar mill driven by oxen and a typical lunch at the cultural project of CODECE. The next morning you start your trip with a guided tour through the Cloud Forest Reserve La Paz, which contains virgin forests with a very wide range of species. After crossing the Central Cordillera you stay overnight at the foot of Volcano Arenal. The next day you walk to the gigantic Fortuna waterfall in a gorge amidst dense tropical forest and can bathe in the river. In clear weather you can see the lava eruptions of the volcano. Afterwards we drive you around the large Lake Arenal and through the Pacific Lowland with its vast cattle ranches to the peninsula of Nicoya and the Monte Alto Reserve, where an ecological initiative tries to protect the headwaters of the river Nosara. On our way to the dream beaches of Samara and Puerto Carillo you can visit the second oldest colonial church of Nicoya and eat a healthy meal cooked on solar-powered ovens by a group of local women called Caimital. After 2 days of refreshing swims in the ocean and other activities at the fantastic palm beaches you return to Ciudad Colon.
